Hosting with purpose

Jardin des Douars is proud to support the “Les Petits Marins” social nursery, run by the Association Féminine El Khir in Essaouira. This initiative welcomes children from vulnerable families, while helping their mothers move towards greater autonomy.

In 2025, our support made it possible to provide school supplies, organise educational workshops for mothers, and plan joint cultural and recreational outings for parents and children. These shared moments are opportunities to build trust, create bonds, and open up new perspectives for the families involved.

Through this commitment, we remain true to a simple conviction: hospitality finds its full meaning when extended to those who are often excluded from it.

Since September 2024, we have been offering creative workshops for children during each school holiday, in partnership with the Chouikik cooperative. Led by passionate women, these sessions allow children to discover traditional Moroccan crafts in a spirit of sharing and transmission. All proceeds are donated to the cooperative, which is developing a sewing department to provide women with paid work and greater independence. A joyful, committed project, deeply rooted in Essaouira’s social fabric.

Nestled at the heart of the property, our garden provides a seasonal supply of fresh herbs, aromatic plants and edible flowers, all grown without pesticides or chemical fertilisers.

Designed as a source of inspiration, it feeds our kitchen with flavour, colour and vitality. Beyond the produce itself, it represents a concrete commitment to a more plant-based, local and sustainable cuisine, closely tied to the land of Essaouira. A small gesture for the planet, a big step for flavour.

Since 2022, towels no longer suitable for guest use have been entrusted to a local association. They are transformed into bath ponchos, beach pouches and other accessories, crafted by people in social reintegration programmes. These unique creations are sold in our spa boutique, embedding this initiative within a meaningful and circular approach.

At Le Jardin des Douars, our pools and domestic hot water are heated by several biomass boilers powered with unused plant waste, sourced mainly from local agriculture. Depending on the season, we use olive pomace, apricot kernels, or argan shells — natural by-products that, instead of being discarded, are intelligently repurposed within a virtuous cycle.

A local, circular, and sustainable solution that reduces our reliance on fossil fuels while giving new value to the by-products of neighboring agricultural sectors.

While Morocco does not yet have a structured national waste management system, we have implemented our own internal sorting and recycling process. We collaborate with local partners to collect, sort and repurpose plastics, glass and cardboard. An effort that is demanding, yet essential in a context where little is standardised.

Glass water bottles, reusable straws, the end of individual plastic packaging in rooms — we have reduced single-use plastics as much as possible, without compromising our guests' comfort.

On two occasions, we proudly supported a 100% female team from Essaouira participating in the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles. A human and solidarity-driven adventure that celebrates the strength, audacity and determination of women from our region.
